Sheila Pepe
Sheila Pepe
New York–based artist Sheila Pepe (b. 1959) is best known for her vibrant large-scale installations made of yarn, rubber bands, shoelaces, and other domestic and industrial textiles. Suspended networks of knotted nodes, and taut or sagging internodes, are created on-site by a team of collaborators, to whom Pepe allows much freedom to determine the work’s final form. The process highlights two important drivers of Pepe’s formalism: the function of the tactile and material, and the generous and interconnected spirit of her installations.
