SOFÍA CÓRDOVA
Oakland-based artist Sofía Córdova’s (b. 1985) practice is informed by the acute observation and intuition of a seer, manifested in sculptures that combine taxidermy (an art in which she is self-taught), urban detritus, organic matter, and collaborative video and performance. Often installed together like a stage set, the collective works propose an alternative environment where nonhuman bodies are actors in a near-future narrative, simultaneously cueing the apocalyptic and the utopic.
